Snap
Hoek Productions was formed by John “Snappy Arms”
Sabourin and Zane van Hoek in 2004 to fulfill what
they saw as a need for a professional labour and
production company in Toronto. One of our first
large shows was the 2004 Much Music Video Awards for
which we provided “much” of the lighting labour.
John
got his first taste of the entertainment business in
1993 when he worked as a technician at The Oakville
Centre for the Performing Arts. From there John
entered Sheridan College in the Technical Theatre
Production program, once leaving he worked at
Frischkorn Audio Visual. John enjoyed working in
the set shop and expanded his experience in lighting
and rigging, it wasn’t long before he realized that
he wanted to make rigging his focus.
Zane
attended the Winnipeg Technical Vocation High
School, which is where he developed a passion for
Media Arts. He also got a job at Westsun and began
to work as a lighting and special effects technician
at the age of 15. After the Pan Am Games in 1999
Zane decided to broaden his horizons and moved to
Toronto. Establishing himself quickly in Toronto
Zane worked as the technical lead for Benson &
Hedges at Night program and the Government
Entertainment Complex.
Zane
and John met on tour and just a few years later they
had taken Snap Hoek from conception to reality.
From the beginning Snap Hoek enjoyed great successes
and relied heavily on its great service and word of
mouth advertising. We experienced exponential
growth every year and added to our ever expanding
list of satisfied clients.
Snap
Hoek has established itself as a leader in
production and labour services in Toronto and the
surrounding area. Some of our greatest achievements
have been; The Royal Ontario Museum Opening, The
Much Music Video Awards, Fashion Cares, The Rolling
Stones Bigger Bang pre-production, New Years Eve
Nathan Phillips Square, Ameriprise Financial, Genie
Awards, Gemini Awards, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Juno
Awards, Grey Cup, Bell Celebrity Gala and many, many
more.
These
days you may still find Zane and John on various
sites supervising but more often fulfilling more
specific production related roles. Zane likes to
design and operate lighting, stage manage and most
recently is the producer of the 2008 Juno Fanfare
Event in Calgary. John was most recently the
production rigger for CTV New Years Eve at Nathan
Phillips Square and is often in that role at many
large events around Toronto.
Snap
Hoek is the finest source of labour and production
services as its founding partners come from such
strong backgrounds and continue to work successfully
in their fields.
